FAQ & Troubleshooting

Why isn't my event showing up on the website?

Work through this checklist in order:

  1. Is it Published? Draft events never show up publicly, no matter what else is set. Open the event and check its status.

  2. Is it Public? Unlisted events only work if someone has the direct link; Private events never show publicly at all. Check the Privacy field.

  3. Is the date/time right? If an event looks off by an hour or more, it's almost always your jurisdiction's timezone setting rather than something wrong with the event — worth checking with support if it seems consistently off.

  4. Is it a far-future occurrence of a repeating event? Only occurrences up to about two years ahead are shown — see Setting up a repeating event. If you're looking further out than that, it won't be visible yet.

  5. Is the Calendar element actually on the page you're checking? Confirm the page has a Calendar element added, and that it's configured to show Events (not Meetings only — Events and Meetings are separate settings on the Calendar element). See Adding your calendar to your website.

If none of these explain it, reach out to support with the event's name and you can help narrow it down further.

Who can create, edit, and publish events?

Any staff member with Dashboard access can create, edit, and publish events — there's no separate approval step, so publishing takes effect right away.

Deleting an event (or an entire recurring series) is restricted to Department Admins and Admins. Everyone else can still cancel an event, which keeps it visible but clearly marked as canceled — see Canceling or deleting an event for the difference.

Events vs. Meetings — what's the difference?

Events and Meetings can look similar at first — both live in nearby parts of the Dashboard, and both can appear on the same public Calendar — but they're different features built for different things:

  • Events are for anything you want to announce to residents that doesn't need an agenda: a festival, a road closure, a holiday closure, a community fair. Publishing is immediate — there's no approval or minutes process.

  • Meetings are for official government meetings — they come with agendas, minutes, recordings, and workflows built around the meeting process. Meetings have their own section: Meetings, Agendas & Minutes.

If what you're posting has (or will have) an agenda or minutes, it belongs in Meetings, not Events — start with the Meetings collection linked above instead of this one.
